How to Romanticize Winter and Overcome seasonal Depression 

The winter is coming right.This is the time of year where we struggle the most.The cold air and the rainy days makes us want to sleep in and wake up late.The moody weather is going to make us feel a bit off and we become slow in our work tasks.But winter doesn’t need to be this way when we start romanticizing it and watch your life become more magical.So this is a guide to Romanticize Winter and overcome our seasonal depression.

Don’t judge me but winter is my favorite season of the whole year(maybe because my birthday falls in the winter).But more than that I love the vibes of Winter,its holiday season and everyone is around decorating their homes and enjoying good food.So why are we staying in thinking about when would summer come when we can romanticize the winter!


Make a Winter Aesthetic Pinterest board 

Hey you knew this was coming right ? Pinterest is the best place to romanticize anything so why not winter.When you are not a fan of the winter season then get onto pinterest find the winter aesthetics and vibes that you like and make a board out of it.

This could be all the cute winter outfits you could wear,many ways in which you can decorate your home,all the good baking recipes that you can try out,or a winter getaway that you can plan,pin all the holiday movies that you can watch.

Prioritize going for walks when the sun is out

To skip the winter blues we need to get in the sunlight whenever possible.Sunlight truly energizes us and on the winter days mostly when the sun is out in the day try going out and bask in the sun.

Sunlight is directly related to serotonin and boosts our mood immediately.There are many research that suggests that sunlight helps us mentally and physically.

Read here about the health benefits of sunlight.It is really important to move your body physically to overcome seasonal depression as well.

Practice Slow and Mindful Living 

Since the days are getting shorter and there are not many activities to do outside,be inside and practice slow living.Slow living can look like waking up to enjoy a cup of hot chocolate,being very present and mindful in the moment.It can also look like taking a long,hot shower,reading a fiction book.

This will put us in the mood for cozy vibes.If you have work like me romanticize working in the winter by setting your table to a window and looking outside while working.

Lighting new candles for the season and setting the tone by putting on some jazz music.What I like to do is to put on a Study/Work with me youtube video on my TV and work along with it.Sets me up for both the cozy mood and the productivity.

Self care activities

Winter is the amazing time to do a lot of self care activities.Have you see these Youtube Shorts where women do bubble baths with products that are full of winter vibes.That is what we need to do set the tone and take care of ourselves this season.

To overcome the seasonal depression it is necessary to take care of yourself.Some of the winter self care ideas are:

  • Preparing warm nourishing meals
  • Knitting 
  • Watching holiday christmas movies 
  • Sitting by the fire/Candle light 
  • Build a cozy fort with pillows,sheets and blankets
  • Setting up fairy lights 
  • Reading fiction 
  • Taking a walk in the snow

Get ready for the new year 

This is the perfect time to get ready for the new year.This is the perfect time to set new goals,intentions and make a vision board.There is no specific idea that a vision board is to be made all alone.Call in your girlfriends for a night,enjoy some good holiday music,eat baked cookies and do the vision board all together.

When we have a partner to work on with us we are more likely to stick to it and get the work done instead of procrastinating.And when you have great friends they set the tone you don’t need to do anything

Schedule downtime and reduce screen time 

During these winter months we will feel even more depressed than the summer months,so when we are scrolling mindlessly we tend to feel bogged down.When you are already cold and not in the mood to wake up, what does scrolling mindlessly do to our brain?It is going to make us even more depressed and sad.

So its important that we mindfully use our phones and social media this season.Make sure that in the evenings it is downtown time for yourelf.Do an activity together that doesn’t involve using the phone,cook a recipe using a cookbook instead of using phone.This will help you to to relax and unwind for the day.

Prioritize a hygge home 

Hygge is the Norwegian word for a mood of coziness and comfort with a feeling of wellness and contentment.

Winter is the perfect time to redecorate our homes to get into the holiday vibes.Getting some new candles,setting up a new christmas tree,buying new cozy blankets,changing into new sheets,setting up a hot chocolate bar all can set in the vibe.When our home is cozy it helps us feel a bit more better and happier.

Spend afternoon working/studying at a cafe 

This is my most favorite of all.Imagine yourself sitting in a cafe with a marshmallow hot chocolate and studying with background ambient music.Feels aesthetic right ? So afternoon when we are feeling to get into bed and cancel our plans think about this and head to a cafe to work there.

Not only does is helps us to work better when go to social spaces and see others working it motivates us.So whenever possible headout to a cafe in the afternoon to enjoy a coffee and work/study in a cafe.

Play Winter ambience Music in the Background

This is one of the best ways to romanticize winter,just go to youtube and search for winter ambience videos and play it all along while you are doing your daily works.

I do it everytime I just put those crackling fireplace videos and run them in the TV background.It makes most of the mundane tasks that we are doing a lot more romanticized and enjoyable.Click here to watch some winter ambience music on youtube.
